If you are building a long-distance mousetrap powered car or rubber band powered racer then one of the most basic design concepts to understand is gearing. Gearing in its simplest of terms is how far a vehicle will travel from the amount of string that can be pulled from its drive axle. With mousetrap cars the gearing can be controlled by changing the length of the lever arm and/or changing the size of the drive axle/drive wheel system. The Ultimate Big Wheel is designed to cover almost 1 meter of linear distance for every wrap of string that is pulled from its drive axle. The Ultra-light Big Wheel is made from a very light weight corrugated plastic that has very little rotational inertia and is designed to be used with any long-distance traveling project. Over the years we have seen many builders try to use old record albums and the problem with these old records is that they are very heavy and have a lot of rotational inertia. Doc Fizzix's Ultra-Light Big wheel weighs only 1.3 oz. and has almost no rotational inertia so your long-distance vehicle can travel much further than those who try to use old records for drive wheels. The results are mind-blowing! Ultra-light Big Wheels are cut to fit a 3/16 axle that is also included with this set-up.

Application:

The Ultra-light Big wheel is used as the primary drive wheel on long-distance traveling vehicles. Designed to use a 3/16-inch axle, for every wrap of string that is pulled from it's drive axle the Ultra-light Big wheel will travel 1 full meter. The Ultra-light Big Wheel can be used with all mousetrap car and rubber band racer distance projects.

The Ultra-light Big Wheel includes our "easy-to-wind" and "snag-free " string release system that will not tangle or snag for increased performance, a technique developed exclusively by Doc Fizzix.
