Reducing Friction

The number one objective when building a recored setting long-distance traveling mousetrap powered vehicle and/or speed-trap racer is to reduce the rolling friction as much as possible in order to increase the coasting distance and/or top speed of your vehicle. The worst friction point on any mousetrap car and/or rubber band racer are always where the spinning axle is attached to the frame. Graphite powder is a dry lubricant that can be used to reduce the friction between the axles and frame by as much as 20-40% thereby increasing your vehicles total travel distance by as much as 40%. Apply a small amount of Pine-Pro graphite powder between any two surfaces that rub against one another to reduce friction and save energy. Make sure to apply a liberal amount of Pin-Pro graphite powder to all axle points and then spin the axle in order to work the graphite powder into the wood.

For axles, apply graphite powder between the axle and frame, then spin. Repeat several times to make sure the graphite powder coast the surface to perfection. Also apply graphite powder to the mousetrap's spring to also reduce friction and decreasing energy loss to heat and sound.
