The "right" string does makes a huge difference in the performance for any string propulsion vehicle such as mousetrap and rubber band powered racers. The biggest problem with most strings is that they are too thick so they do not wind evenly around the drive axle causing inconsistent and/or poor performance. The "thinner" the string the easier and smoother it will wind and unwind from the drive axle and the better your vehicle will perform.
