The key to building any record setting vehicle is to reduce friction as much as possible, the most common friction points where the axles comes in contact with the frame. Micro Ball Bearings are designed to replace the energy wasting bushing systems with a more efficient ball-bearing system that will reduce the total friction by as much as 50-100%. This means that your vehicle will travel up to 50-100% further and faster than the rest of the competition. Micro-ball bearing also decrease the normal wear that occurs between moving parts and helps eliminate heat build-up so your vehicle can convert more of it's starting energy into increased performance. Micro bearings take a little more work to set-up and are intended only for those individuals who want to set a new school record. Micro-bearings can be used with all rubber band and mousetrap racers that uses a 3/16-inch axle.

How it works:

Micro-ball bearings are mounted into the frame of the vehicle and hold the axle from touching the frame. Instead of the axle rubbing on the frame as with a bushing system, micro-ball bearings hold the axle and allow the axle to spin on a surface of tinny balls that reduce the surface friction to near zero. Micro-bearings have an outer diameter of 3/8-inch and an inner diameter of 3/16-inch. In some cases, axles need to be sanded to fit the bearing since the bearings are manufactured to a much higher tolerance than most hobby tubing. Ball bearings require more work than bushing systems but the rewards are well worth the work. Ball bearings can be used with almost all Doc Fizzix kits and when purchased with any one of our pre-drilled kits we will resize the holes on request to accommodate the bearings.
