The Basic Kit II with micro-bearings is designed to maximize the mousetrap's energy output over a 200% greater travel distance while reducing the overall loss of energy from friction and increasing the efficiency. The Basic Kit II with micro-ball bearings will travel from 40-80 meters for most builders.

Micro-ball bearing upgrade
Eliminating friction is the biggest key to building a successful mousetrap powered racer.  Micro-ball bearings are designed to reduce the friction between the axle and the frame of a vehicle by as much as 50%. Originally designed for R/C racers, these micro bearings work great on The Basic II and will increase both the overall speed and distance of travel by as much as 50% over The Basic II without bearings.  Bearings take more work to set-up properly and are intended only for those individuals who want to set a new school record.
